Field Trip Factory Shares Dietitian Summit Findings
to Improve Nation’s Health, Beginning at Store Level
(Chicago, Illinois – March 22, 2010) Field Trip Factory, the nation's leading provider of hands-on, immersion learning experiences, recently hosted its second annual Dietitian Summit in Scottsdale, AZ. The open format of this unique 3-day dialog allowed top health professionals and dietitians to participate in an information exchange to truly support consumer health where it matters most, in the aisles of the nation's grocery stores.
Key takeaways from the Summit include:
- Dietitians influence shopper decisions by impacting the marketing messages and tools that shoppers view in the grocery environment; e.g.: product labeling, availability and accessibility of educational information, and product placement.
- Health and wellness initiatives are most successful when they are supported and promoted from the top down. The information needs to be provided at the consumer level as well as internally within the grocery organization.
- Connecting what consumers eat to the environment, and where they live, is important to health and wellness.
"To impact the supply of healthy products, we need to influence demand," said Susan Singer, President and Founder of Field Trip Factory. "Having many of the best dietitians in the industry openly exchange ideas and experiences provides a wealth of information which is another way we hope to impact the food produced and consumed in America."
The summit was supported by 30 of the nation's leading food industry experts from around the United States, including representatives from Action For Healthy Kids, Ahold/ GIANT Food Stores, Albertsons (Supervalu), Arizona Department of Education, Bashas’ Family of Stores, Del Monte, Eating Well Magazine, Festival Foods, Fresh Direct, Frito-Lay, General Mills/ Bell Institute, Hannaford Bros., H-E-B, Hen House Markets, In-Store Insights, Kellogg’s, Ketchum, King Kullen, Lowes Foods, Meijer, Inc., Old Ways, PepsiCo, Sunflower Farmers Markets, United Supermarkets, LLC, and Yakult U.S.A. Inc.. Summit content for the second-annual summit was developed in partnership with Barbara Ruhs, RD from Bashas’.
